6 SONGWRITING OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUR SCHOOL

Our songwriting programmes run in schools are a unique creative opportunity for your pupils to learn from inspiring professional songwriters. There are many roles to play in the songwriting process – lyricists, musicians, producers, idea generators and organisers, so all pupils can be engaged and contribute.

We’ve run 6 successful songwriting programmes in a wide range of schools – leavers’ songs, school anthem songs, tailored songwriting workshops for different year groups and songwriting clubs in schools’ after school programmes.

The creative songwriting process not only advances lyrical & musical skills but develops pupils’ confidence and social skills, like creativity, emotional intelligence, empathy, listening, curiosity and inter-personal skills.

In addition, songs written in our songwriting programmes are an inspiring way to promote the uniqueness & creativity of your school.

LEAVERS’ SONGS (academic years 6, 8 or 13)
What better memento for leavers than a song written by themselves about their time at school and looking ahead to an exciting new beginning.

Our professional songwriters help your pupils write a song which captures their memories and experiences of school life. We believe that it’s a valuable experience for leavers to reflect on their time at school – the achievements, friendships, feelings of being part of the community, challenging times and the fun times. There are many roles to play in the songwriting process – lyricists, musicians, producers, idea generators and organisers, so all pupils can be engaged and contribute.

It’s a fun activity which develops many crucial life skills, vital for creating their future. For example – communication, listening, giving feedback, emotional intelligence, team working, influencing skills, creative thinking and leadership skills.

In addition, the song is a powerful PR tool for schools to promote your school in a unique way.

There are 3 main parts to the songwriting process. First, we provide a framework for your English teachers and Music teachers to help pupils create initial lyrical ideas and choose a style of music for their song. Second, we hold a 3 hour songwriting workshop to create the lyrics, melodies and composition. Third, we create a backing track and record the vocals of a small group of pupils.

Third, we can create a backing track (and instrumental scores) and record the vocals of a small group of pupils.
1, 2 or 3 HOUR IN PERSON SONGWRITING WORKSHOPS
Workshops are tailored to the needs of the group of pupils. Songwriting workshops range from introductions to songwriting for a diverse range of abilities to songwriting workshops for a group of musically talented pupils. Past workshops have focused on general songwriting techniques & inspiration, lyrics & melodies, composition, production & recording.
1 or 2 HOUR ONLINE SONGWRITING WORKSHOPS
Our online workshops are tailored to the needs of a small group of musical pupils. Songwriting workshops range from introductions to songwriting, songwriting techniques & inspiration, lyrics & melodies, composition, production & recording.
SONGWRITING CLUB IN YOUR AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMME
Do you have some musical pupils who love singing, music and thinking creatively? Then start an exciting songwriting club run by our inspiring professional songwriters. There are fun songwriting briefs to spark ideas and the Song Academy team help with developing lyrics, melodies and composition. Group sizes are small and the end of term concert is a very special event.

Each term members will write at least one song and develop their musicality and ability to powerfully express themselves. Parents tell us that the number one benefit from being part of Song Academy is the positive impact on their child’s confidence and self-esteem.
VIDEO COURSE FOR BEGINNER SONGWRITERS
Our fun and easy to follow songwriting video course for beginners is a perfect resource for teachers (Music and English) to help pupils write their first song. You can write a song as a whole class or pupils can write their own individual songs.

Scarlet and Brendan from Song Academy will talk you through each stage of the songwriting process to write your own song – from start to finish – deciding on a concept for your song, writing lyrics, improvising melodies, creating chord progressions and recording their song.

You don’t need to be able to play an instrument to write your first song with our new video course as we’ve created backing tracks for each part of your song. If you do play an instrument we’ve shown you how to play the chords (on piano and guitar).

There are useful worksheets for each stage of the process to make it really easy to write your song.
